Ok full disclosure here: I went on this little day trip for the experience of being in a high traffic zone during a Chinese holiday, not so much to see the beach.
The cab dropped me off here. Followed the crowd for about a quarter of a mile..
Went the right way! This tower marks the the entrance to Dameisha.
Here we goooo
You have to go through a turnstile to get to the beach park? I guess to account for the number of people...
These weird human/pegasus statues are everywhere. I have no idea why.
Making my way towards the shoreline...uhh where is the shoreline?
What a lovely view of mostly half naked Chinese guys...guess the whole woman's swimwear trend hasn't really caught on in China...
there is definitely more people than sand in this picture. The shoreline is also somewhere around this area. seriously do girls have bathing suits here?! cause I see NONE.
ok peace out...
walking along the perimeter of this little pond, i found a Pacific Coffee Company. I stopped in for a beverage and a bite to eat. For somewhere that was ~300 ft away from the beach park, this place was EMPTY.
Treating myself to a grapefruit granita and a quick bite to eat before trying to find my way home.
There's an outlet mall next to the beach with international brands. It actually looks almost exactly like an American-strip style outlet mall, with brands like Guess, Samsonite, and Nike.
Now for the next portion of my adventure i have NO PICTURES. too bad cause it was definitely the most interesting part. found the bus station where i elbowed my way onto a random bus. idk, probably not the best move looking back, but the minute the bus pulled up, a mass of people started jumping on before the thing even stopped. i just figured that if that many people were that desperate to get on the bus, it must be going somewhere near the downtown area.
so i'm on the bus that is literally at maximum capacity, squeezed between a bunch of randos, no idea where on earth i'm going, how long it's going to take, etc etc. while i'm worrying about all these things, this lady is standing up in front of her seat, trying to communicate (by screaming at the top of her lungs) with her friend at the back of the bus. i notice she has a jar full of sea slugs sitting in her seat...with no lid. so OF COURSE the bus turns at that moment and the jar tips over. seaslugs and water all around my feet....great. this lady is frantically trying to clean up, but her first priority is wiping her seat dry (with the shirt she's wearing) so she can sit on it again. so the sea slugs are literally just chilling on the floor next to me for a good couple minutes. after she cleaned up all of her sea slugs, some little shit headbutted me in the crotch. china...sometimes you are just cruel.
After about 45 minutes on the bus I started to recognize some of the landmarks of downtown shenzhen.
Ended up at LaoJie (Old Street), a popular shopping area THAT HAS A SUBWAY STOP! straight cruising towards home from there
all in all i got exactly what i wanted...a true national holiday beach day experience. i would say my takeaway lesson from this is AVOID BEACHES AND PUBLIC BUSES COMING FROM TOURIST ATTRACTIONS AT ALL COSTS DURING NATIONAL HOLIDAYS. and that is all.
